Outline (in English)

(Outline and objectives)
The main purpose of this course is to provide a basic perspective on the Japan-U.S. relationship during the Cold War era, with a special focus on the links between diplomacy and domestic politics. The following topics are to be covered: formulation of the security arrangements, amendment of the Security Treaty, Okinawa reversion, nuclear problems, and economic friction.

(Learning activities outside of the classroom)
Students should expect to spend an additional four hours before/after the lecture class engaged in reading, review, and writing activities.

(Grading Criteria/Policy)
Grading will be decided based on the in-class contribution(100%).
