Outline (in English)

Analytical chemistry is the study of methods of separation, identification and quantification of the chemical composition and structure of materials through chemical and physical phenomena. This course covers the basis of fundamental analytical chemistry, through the study of treatment of experimental error, acid-base equilibria, solubility equilibria, complexation equilibria, and oxidation-reduction equilibria. It also enhances the development of students’ skill in carrying out an analytical chemical experiment. Other topics addressed include the basis of fundamental instrumental analytical chemistry, the basic principles of UV visible spectroscopy and different kinds of chromatography.

Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Term-end examination: 40%, Quiz: 30%, Short reports : 20%, in class contribution: 10%.
