Outline (in English)

Course outline:
This course introduces techniques for measuring the properties of materials in a non-destructive and non-contact optical methods. The course will focus on the principle of measurement based on electromagnetism, and give an overview of the ingenuity and its effects that have been applied to the device according to the purpose of measurement.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the course, students are expected to understand how the behavior of light changes due to its interaction with matter. The students will also understand the basic concepts and applications of ellipsometry, which is a typical polarization measurement method widely used in various fields of technology.
Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students will be expected to study more than four hours for a class. Make sure to have most of the basic mathematical skills related to trigonometric functions, exponential functions, vectors, complex numbers, calculus, etc. Clearly understand the transformation of equations and derivation of formulas in lecture materials.
Grading Criteria /Policy:
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on term-end examination(80%) and short reports(20%).
