Outline (in English)

This course deals with the very beginning of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. The topics covered by this course include the thermal phenomena, the formalism of thermodynamics, the statistical mechanics from behaviors of micro gas particles, etc. The goals of this course are to understand the basics of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, and to learn how these scientific fields have been developed. Students will be expected to review the previous lecture before each class meeting. Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (70%) and in-class contribution (including in-class practice: 30%).
