Outline (in English)

Students acquire basic skills for working with sets and logical reasoning, which are prerequisites of all of mathematics. In addition, they learn some of the basics of discrete mathematics. From the Discrete Structures (DS) field of the standard computer science carriculum (J07-CS), the course covers the following topics:
DS1: functions, relations, sets
DS2: logic
DS4: proof methods
The goals of the course are: to understand the basic concepts about sets, relations, and functions; to understand the meanings of logical symbols and to be able to express propositions and conditions using them; to learn inference rules associated with each logical symbol; and to understand recursive definitions and to be able to use proof by mathematical induction.
The time required for study outside of the classes will be at least four hours per week.
The course grade will be based on the roughly weekly assignments (30%) and the final exam (70%).
