Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This class is designed to nurture abilities to solve large-scale and/or complex problems from computational approaches. In analyzing natural and/or social phenomena, we occasionally come across hard problems to solve them analytically. Simulation-based approaches would be effective to address these instances, for which the attendees are expected to acquire basic and advanced skills to manipulate them.

[Learning objectives]
Upon completion, students should have abilities associated with:
1. Operational and programming skills for MATLAB
2. Problem resolution skill, particularly for when unexpected results have been obtained
3. Decision making-skill using obtained results

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
1. Students should spend four hours for preparation and review.
2. Preferred prerequisites: physics on mechanics

[Grading criteria]
The assessment will be conducted based on:
class contribution: 20%, brief reports: 50%, term report: 30%
