Outline (in English)

【outline and objectives】
Natural science is the study of discovering the general laws that exist behind phenomena through careful observation and inductive reasoning. This course is designed to provide students with a conceptual understanding of how various phenomena and objects in the world are expressed by theories and realized by technologies, using familiar examples to systematically understand the necessary theories.

In this course, we will firstly explore how the contents learned so far will be useful in the future and learn the relationship among academic disciplines to be learned from now. By acquiring the relevance among basic subjects and their application in science and engineering field, we aim to cultivate the foundation of self-motivated learning ability, problem finding and resolution ability.

【method】
“Why have we studied differential and integral calculus so far?” “What is the physical meaning of the imaginary number i?” Students will learn the "meaning of learning" by learning about actual applications. In this way, students will learn to look at phenomena and objects of observation not only superficially but also analytically based on mathematics and physics. In addition, students will be able to experience the essence of what they need to know as a science and engineering engineer through many exercises.

【goal】
Understand the basic issues behind basic science and engineering subjects, and acquire the basic skills to set up problems of interest and analyze them. Students will also develop the ability to summarize their own results.

【learning outside the classroom】
Homework to be completed during class time.
Review basic mathematics such as differential and integral calculus and probability.
At a minimum, students should be able to use tools such as Excel to the extent that they can analyze data on their own.

【grading criteria】
Final exam (50%)
Mid-term report (30%)
Exercise reports to be given during class (several times: 20% total)
