Outline (in English)

Plasma, composed of ions and electrons, has a high-temperature state, and it occupies more than 99 % of visible materials in the universe. Plasma can show us exciting phenomena such as nonlinearity and complexity, and we can see a variety of plasma facets from the natural world to artifacts. Advanced plasma technology and manufacture are indispensable for daily human lives.
Here, we introduce fundamental plasma characteristics, especially diffusion process and plasma waves after a short revies, and a plasma propulsion rocket (here, “Hayabusa” is famous) as an application example.
The aim of this course is to help students acquire the above topics, and the goals of this course are to acquire them.
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the followings: term-end examination: 50 % and reports on practical problems: 50 %.
