Outline (in English)
< Course outline >
This course introduces various functional devices in optical communications and information processing. The goal is to understand the fundamental principles of passive devices.
< Learning objectives >
By the end of the course, students are expected to acquire the following skills:
- Understanding of optical waveguide theory
- Fundamental knowledge of optical communication devices, including the multiplexer, switch, polarization rotator, and wavelength filter
< Learning activities outside of classroom >
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Moreover, additional work is expected in case the report is assigned as homework.

光通信で使用されている各種機能デバイスの動作原理と使用方法の理解を目的とし、今後の研究の課題に触れる。
到達目標Goal
光導波路機能デバイスの種類を理解し、通信回路を設計する基礎を修得する。

オンライン講義とする。授業の方法は学習支援システムで提示するが、資料をダウンロードし、予習をしておくこと。
光波を用いて情報の伝達は効率良く行える。このような光通信システムを設計するには各種光デバイスの理解が不可欠である。光ファイバは長距離伝送路として使用されているが、これに付随して各種光集積回路が送受信機、中継器内で活躍している。本講義では、これら光デバイスの種類と機能を解説する。光波はまた、通信への応用という側面以外に、最近、新しい情報処理技術を開拓するものとしても注目されてきている。本講義では、こうした諸技術の基礎理論も取り扱う。

複数回のレポートを課し、評価はレポートのみで行う。詳細は学習支援システムで公開する。
