Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
This course introduces the basic theories of Modern control theory to students. Modern control theory utilizes the time-domain state space representation (mathematical model of a physical system as a set of input, output and state variables related by first-order differential equations) which provides a convenient and compact way to model and analyze systems with multiple inputs and outputs, and moreover, enables to deal with nonlinear terms and initial values.

<Learning objectives>
By the end of the course, students are expected to acquire following skills
- Modeling of the linear dynamic system
- Controller design with state feedback (Pole placement method, Optimal control theory etc.) and observer
- Controller design of both regulator and servo system
- Understanding of Kalman filter (Optimal observer)

<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Moreover, additional work is expected in case the report is assigned as homework.

<Grading Criteria>
Term-end examination : 80%, In class contributions 20%
