Outline (in English)

Materials science combines many areas of science, which is a multidisciplinary approach to science that involves designing, choosing, and using major classes of materials, including metals and non-metals. The course provides balanced treatment of the full spectrum like physical properties, applications and relevant properties of engineering materials. It also discusses formation of microstructures of materials and relation between them and their properties. By the end of the course, students should be able to know the followings:
-the different types of materials and the applications.
-micro structures of metals.
-an equilibrium diagram of iron.
-the heat treatment of steel.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading will be decided based on short reports: 20% and term-end examination: 80%.
