Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
In order to suppress the noise generated from the machine and to create a comfortable sound environment, it is necessary to master the fundamentals related to sound. In this lecture, we will outline the handling of noise as a wave phenomenon, characteristics of auditory sense, occurrence of noise, propagation mechanism, silencing method, measurement and evaluation method. In addition, practical understanding will be deepened by incorporating exercises aiming at public qualification examination on noise prevention.

【Learning Objectives】
Understand basic noise quantities, generation mechanisms, and reduction methods.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
The standard study time for this class is 4 hours, including preparation and review. Review of logarithmic calculations, as logarithms are often used in sound calculations.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Evaluation method: Each exercise will be evaluated based on the answers (50%) and the final exam (50%).
Evaluation criteria: Students who have achieved 60% or more of the objectives set for this course will pass the course.
