Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course outline)】
This course introduces the following machine elements: screw, shaft, key, shaft coupling, bearing, accuracy, tolerance of size, geometrical tolerance, surface roughness, gear, belt, chain, clutch, cam, spring, and sealing device.

【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1. You can explain the role and use of a screw.
2. You can explain the role, kind and use of an axis, a key, a coupling and a bearing.
3. You can understand tolerance of size, geometrical tolerance, and surface roughness.
4. You can explain the role and feature of a gear, a belt and a chain.
5. You can explain the use of a clutch, a cam, a spring and sealing device.

【授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)】
After each class meeting, students will be expected to review the course content.
Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policy)】
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process
Short reports in class and reports (20%), and term-end examination (80%)
