Outline (in English)
What is language? We will watch two DVDs, entitled "The Human Language Evolves: With and Without Words" and Noam Chomsky: Language and Mind," and discuss Chomsky's work concerned with this question. Chomsky argues that contemporary work on the nature, use, and acquisition of language is based on the revival and reconstitution of venerable themes, which considered the study of language to be part of the more general study of human cognition. From this perspective, the objects of inquiry are the inner mechanisms of the mind that account for the knowledge, use, and acquisition of language. We will review and discuss recent findings on such mechanisms, to which Chomsky has contributed for over half a century. Registered students are expected to attend every class and come prepared to work on the assigned material in depth. Your final grade will be based on the total score of the two Review Exams (100%).

言語とは何か。この問いを英語のデータを中心に様々な角度からとりあげます。関係するDVD２本を視聴し、その英文transcriptsを読み進めていきます。視聴するDVDは下記の２本です。

講義形式に加え、ディスカッションを行います。学生の積極的な参加を期待します。また、授業内テストを適宜行い、テキスト・配布資料に対する学生の理解度を確認します。フィードバックは、授業内、学習支援システム、メール（hisatsugu.kitahara.87@hosei.ac.jp）で行う予定です。授業形態は原則対面授業を予定していますが、感染状況によってはオンライン形態で実施する場合があります。いずれの授業形態においても、毎週課題に取り組み、平常点（2回の復習テストと授業への積極的参加）を成績評価の基準にします。
