Outline (in English)
What is the real object of inquiry in the study of language today? We will discuss contemporary work concerned with this question. We will watch two DVDs, entitled "Discovering the Human Language: Colorless Green Ideas" and "Acquiring the Human Language: Playing The Language Game," and discuss the "cognitive revolution" and its impact on the contemporary study of human language, especially, the Chomskyan shift away from linguistic behaviors as the object of inquiry, to the study of the cognitive mechanisms that allows humans to acquire and use linguistic knowledge. Registered students are expected to attend every class and come prepared to work on the assigned material in depth. Your final grade will be based on the total score of the two Review Exams (100%).

言語とは何か。この問いを英語のデータを中心に様々な角度からとりあげます。関係するDVD２本を視聴し、その英文transcriptsを読み進めていきます。視聴するDVDは下記の２本です。

講義形式に加え、ディスカッションを行います。学生の積極的な参加を期待します。また、授業内テストを適宜行い、テキスト・配布資料に対する学生の理解度を確認します。フィードバックは、授業内、学習支援システム、メール（hisatsugu.kitahara.87@hosei.ac.jp）で行う予定です。授業形態は原則対面授業を予定していますが、感染状況によってはオンライン形態で実施する場合があります。いずれの授業形態においても、毎週課題に取り組み、平常点（2回の復習テストと授業への積極的参加）を成績評価の基準にします。
