Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Even when the same term of library services are in use, those services differ depending on the areas or the library types. In this class, you will learn about library types and outlines, taking examples from actual services, mainly at public libraries. You will also study the way individual services will unfold. Also, by linking theory and practice and setting up prospective service plans, you will look into ideal services in the field of libraries as well as feasible measures to solve outstanding issues.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
In the latter part of the lecture, you will be planning the actual service plan, so you should take the class with this in mind and actively use the public libraries in your neighborhood on your days off. During the lecture period, students will be required to complete assignments related to public libraries they have actually used (or visited). Students are also expected to read through the content of each lecture. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
A mid-term report, a final report, and a presentation based on the reports will be assigned in the lecture. In these reports, students will be evaluated on their ability to analyze, evaluate, and raise issues based on a solid grasp of the issues. In addition, students will be evaluated comprehensively on their participation in class, whether or not they actively participate in presentations and discussions, whether or not they are well prepared for the assignments, whether or not they have a solid awareness of the issues, and whether or not they are willing to tackle the assignments on their own initiative. Ordinary points (including assignment presentations, etc.): 60 points, Assignments and reports: 40 points.
