Outline (in English)

The course is designed for second-year students to further develop the ability to read, listen, speak, and write in English, by utilizing written documents (both primary and secondary) and audiovisual materials on modern Japanese history.

By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to: 1) read, speak, present, and write about Japanese modern history, 2) acquire academic skills in English (reading, presentation, speech, and writing) at the college level, and 3) develop the English vocabulary necessary for university study.

Students will be expected to prepare for and review classes: vocabulary and listening exercises, and other assignments (reading, writing, speech, presentation). The preparation and review time for the class is one hour.

The final grade will be decided by vocabulary quizzes 30%, listening tests 20%, reading exams 30%, writing assignment 15%, speech exercise 5%.
