Outline (in English)
(Course outline)
This course introduces various international cultural and social issues. The course will encourage students to consider their own culture and society within an international context, and obtain new perspectives about current issues. In the Spring Semester, students are encouraged to become familiar with reading English newspaper articles. Students will review and discuss an overview of English-language media via authentic materials. Through the course, students will develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
(Learning Objectives)
Students will be able to:
- read English newspaper articles and understand the main points
- summarize the outlines of newspaper articles
- logically express their opinion about an issue in English
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students are expected to make a short note on a passage for the next class. The preparation and review for the class will take about 1-2 hours every week. Detailed information will be given during the first lesson.

Grading will be decided based on:
- Quizzes, weekly assignments, participation (30%)
- Final Exam (70%)

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
この授業では、１年次に習得した四技能の英語運用能力を用いて、国際語としての英語を通じて世界の多様な文化を理解し、批判的に分析したうえで、英語で意見を発信する能力を養います。春学期は、英字新聞の記事を中心に扱い、英語で書かれたニュースについて自分の意見をまとめ、他者に伝えられるようになることを目指します。

２．英語で書かれた新聞記事を読み、要点を英語で説明できるようになる
３．英語で書かれたを読み、現代社会の諸問題について自分の意見や考えを英語で論理的に伝えられるようになる

この授業は、英語で書かれた新聞記事を使って、英字新聞の特徴や読み方を学びます。また、自分で選んだ新聞記事などを題材に、現代社会のさまざまなトピックについて考えます。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
- 平常点（小テスト、課題、授業への参加態度など） 30%
- 学期末課題 70%
原則として、4回以上欠席すると単位の修得が認められません。

定期的に英字新聞を読むため、読解力がついたという声が寄せられました。また、ニュースを見たり聞いたりする機会が増えたことで、社会問題についての関心が高まったという声も聞かれます。
