Outline (in English)
In this course, students will improve their confidence and skills in overall English communication while familiarizing themselves with the contemporary cultural and social concerns of the English speaking world.

This is the second part of the course, “Current Issues in the English Speaking World,” aiming to help students to become more fluent English speakers by sharing their ideas on cultural and social content popularly discussed in the English speaking world.
到達目標Goal
In this course, students will read a variety of content-based articles, and readings will be supplemented with listening exercises to help students improve their fluency in English. The classes are designed for pair and group discussions to provide the students with a friendly environment to express themselves in English. Students will also be required to complete some writing tasks such as paragraphs and short essays to express their ideas in a more organized way.

Students will participate in a variety of activities that involve all four skills, but there will be a special emphasis on reading and speaking. Students will also be asked to read short articles, prepare for discussion, usually in pairs or groups. Feedback will be mostly provided during class. Written feedback might also be provided when it is deemed necessary.

Why Archaeology?
To warm up, students will make some discussion on the main topic of the unit. They will start reading the assigned article.

Science and Archaeology
Students will discuss the assigned article in more depth to develop ideas for a written assignment. Writing guidelines will be provided following the discussion. Some in-class writing time will also be allowed to start with the assignment.

Listening exercise will be completed from the textbook, and this will be followed by a feedback session on the writing assignments. The class will be divided into small groups to make improvements in the writings.

If there is a listening activity remaining from the previous class, this will be completed first. Then, students will be introduced to a new reading material prepared and provided by the teacher.

Feeding Nine Billions
Group presentations will be conducted in the first half the class. This will be followed by a discussion on the reading passage of the unit. Key vocabulary will also be underlined.

How Food Shapes Our Cities
Students will make their presentations.
There will be a short revision of the reading passage from the previous week to warm up the students to the listening material.
Following this, students will watch the video two times by taking notes and sharing their notes in small groups.
Then, they will read the questions provided in the textbook before watching the video for a final time.
Sub-titles will be provided at the end of the class when answers are being revealed.

Excessive Consumption and Food Waste
Final group will deliver their presentation.
Students will be provided a supplemental reading material prepared by the teacher. A general discussion on the reading material will be followed by an in-depth reading with an emphasis on key vocabulary. Reading questions will be given as homework.

Assigned reading material will be worked on. Following this, students will watch a relevant media content on the topic of the assigned article to explore the topic further and in a fun way.

To warm up, students will make some discussion on the main topic of the unit. They will start reading the assigned article.

Assigned article will be explored in depth and this will be followed by some media content on the topic to make it more understandable and interesting for the students.

Predicting some problems
Students will start the class with a revision of the previous week to be able to warm up to a writing assignment on the topic being explored in the unit. Writing will be partially practiced in the classroom.

Listening materials of the unit will be covered.
Feedback will be provided on the writing assignments through group work.
Some important topics will be re-visited to wrap up the classes before the final exam.

Students are expected to complete assignments every week in preparation for discussion. The assignments might require research.
University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around 4 hours a week for a two-credit course and around an hour a week for a one-credit course.
