Outline (in English)

This course is designed to help students further develop all four skills in English acquired in English 1 and 2. Students will read essays on a wide range of issues in the world today and listen to short talks and conversations on a variety of related topics, thinking critically about them. Students will give a short presentation, integrating skills and knowledge acquired during the course and developing their confidence in English communication.

The goals are to develop the abilities to read, summarize and comment on the essays, grasp the main points of spoken materials, read aloud effectively, and communicate one’s opinions and ideas about the topics in speech and writing.

Completing assignments (preparation for the class, including reading the text, answering questions and listening to a recording) before each class meeting is essential. Students are expected to spend at least an hour per week preparing for and reviewing each class.

Grading criteria: active class participation, assignments and quizzes (85%), final presentation (15%). In principle, no more than 3 absences per semester are allowed.
