Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
One of the most active thinkers in the context of contemporary thought is Slavoj Žižek (1949-). He studies philosophy and psychoanalysis (especially the structuralist psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan) to discuss a wide range of topics, from film and art to contemporary politics.
The first book he wrote in English was "The Sublime Object of Ideology" (1986). This book is an extremely stimulating work that discusses the ideas of Marx, Freud, Hegel, and others in an inexhaustible manner. Therefore, in the spring semester of 2022, I would like to use this book as a basic text to touch upon Žižek's thought.

【Learning Objectives】
At the end of the course, students are expected to read a philosophical text and discuss the philosophical topics.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
