Outline (in English)

Course Outline
Science and technology have brought many achievements as well as new problems to be solved to society. In this course, we will overview the history of science and technology, paying attention to its social aspects, and aim to be able to analytically explain the social problems brought about by science and technology, especially in modern times. Through this, students will build a foundation of thinking to deal with new issues that science and technology can bring.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
− Explain the relationship between science, technology and society in concrete terms from a historical perspective.
− Explain the relationship between science, technology and society from the perspective of politics, economics, and culture.
− Think critically about issues that arise in the interaction between science, technology and society.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Throughout the course period, please pay attention to the problems brought about by technology based on newspapers, movies, science fiction novels, etc., and consider them as problems that concern you. In addition, please take the time to think about the cases we will discuss in class before and after it, and formulate your own ideas. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria /Policy
Grading will be decided based on in class exam (50%) and in class contribution (50%).
