Outline (in English)

In this course, students will learn about macro-scale biological phenomena, and, as such, the course materials focus on interactions among organisms, ecosystem, and biodiversity. In addition, the course will discuss how the course materials relate to various issues that the human society faces today, such as problems associated with environmental degradation and resource management. As a whole, this course provides an opportunity to learn the biological basis of news, etc. that students may come in contact with in their daily life.
In addition to attending classes, students are expected to review contents of individual lectures, thoroughly read distributed reading materials, and utilize the online learning support system, as needed. Standard amounts of time to be spent for this purpose are two hours each for preparation and review.
Final grade will be determined based on quizzes (40 %), final assignment (40 %), and participation/in-class contribution (20%).
