Outline (in English)

There is a wide variety of religious practices that seem strange to us at first glance. This course aims to help students understand the continuity between various religious practices and daily experiences. This course discusses "the religious" from an anthropological perspective, introducing examples of diverse religious practices and concepts for understanding religious practices. At the end of the course, students are expected to acquire a fundamental perspective of anthropology of religion. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours reading reference materials. Grading will be decided based on the term-end report (60%) and in-class contribution (short reports) (40%).
