Outline (in English)

Cultural anthropology, which has been developed through the study of different societies and cultures, is the study of understanding others/ourself. In this course, we will review the basic approaches to the study of religion from an anthropological perspective, thus learning how to approach contemporary religious phenomena from an anthropological perspective. In the second half of the course, we will apply our anthropological approach to understanding religion to the case study of contemporary Islam.
The class will be conducted in a lecture format, and related video materials will be used as appropriate. Students will be asked to submit reaction papers in order to grasp their level of understanding and interest, and feedback will be given to the entire class on the contents of the papers and questions raised. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each. Students will be evaluated comprehensively based on their reaction papers and attitude toward the class (30%) and final report (70%).
