<Course outline>
Theme: Politics of folk music
This course deals with political resistance in music.

The fundamental aim of this course to acquire lens through which contemporary politics can be viewed by considering political resistance in music.
<Learning Objectives>
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
To acquire basic knowledge of Michel Foucault
To understand relationships between American folk music and politics
To acquire basic knowledge of politics and society of the United States,
especially racism, since the nineteenth century

<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Read the prints distributed each time before class and review after class.
Read references.
Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

<Grading Criteria /Policy>
Final grade will be calculated according to term-end report.
