So students are expected to advance all their language skills, however special emphasis will be placed on academic listening and speaking skills.
到達目標Goal
Building on what was studied in English Communication classes in the first and second-year, the goal of the course is to develop students' English language skills and academic abilities to interact successfully in an all English-speaking university environment. Students will work on expanding on their general knowledge of intercultural communication and the sociolinguistic communication skills used in an English-speaking academic context.

Various discourse themes related to life and study in the English-speaking world will be explored in depth. Students will be expected to not only participate in classroom activities, but also find and analyze information from various forms of English media independently. Special emphasis will be given to academic listening and speaking skills. Generally, feedback on student tasks will be provided by email.
If the university's action policy level is set to 2, this class will be taught online as a rule. Details will be announced via the Learning Management System.

Sample presentation.
Today, we will spend some time to get to know each other. All students are expected to introduce themselves. Japanese are known for making a very poor self-introduction. Make sure you speak well enough so that your classmates will fully know your personality.
You will be briefed on how and what you will learn from this class, and the evaluation system. The teacher will also show you a sample presentation so that you will have some idea how you should prepare from next week.
2[対面/face to face]:-Textbook: 1. Urban Challenges
-Video: Urban Solution: Farming on Rooftops
-Student presentation.
We will read/listen to and discuss the theme story of the textbook. Students are expected to explain the topics introduced in the story. We will also try to answer the questions given in the textbook.
Then we will watch the video, answer the questions, and discuss the messages of the video contents.
Two students will prepare a Powerpoint slide and make a presentation on the cities or tourism destinations of the countries you were supposed to study abroad.

Debate is an organized argument where participants discuss a topic from two opposing sides. It has certain rules that participants must strictly follow. But in our class, we will forget about those rules, but will try to express our opinion and explain why we are correct. We will discuss and decide the topics.

Today, each student will make a five-minute presentation on their view of any of the topics we read in the class. Audience students will evaluate the presentation.

Continuation to the previous class, each student will make a five-minute presentation on their view of any of the topics we read in the class. Audience students will evaluate the presentation.
授業時間外の学習(準備学習・復習・宿題等)Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。/University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around 4 hours a week for a two-credit course and around an hour a week for a one-credit course.
Before the class, the students should read, if possible watch the video, and understand the topic of the class. Importantly, students should be prepared to present their idea on the topic.
