Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
Firms that are competitive in their home country often fail overseas. This is partially because the environment of the host country, which is different from that of the home country, reduces the value of their firm-specific advantages. How should firms compete overseas?
This course introduces students to key concepts and frameworks of international business studies. It also gives an overview of recent research topics of international business studies as well as traditional ones.
(Learning objectives)
The goal of this course is to understand basics of international business studies, which include traditional and recent topics. Students are also expected to understand the theoretical foundation of international business and build skills to read academic papers. At the end of this course, students are expected to improve an ability to analyze firms’ success and failure in foreign countries.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students are required to read materials, complete assignments, and prepare for presentations and discussions. Time for preparatory study and review will be at least 4 hours for each class.
(Grading Criteria/Policies)
Students will be evaluated on a term project (50%) and in-class contribution (50%).
