Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
In this course, you learn about the historical development of welfare policy and its its theoretical and ideological basis, and examine the criticisms of and challenges facing contemporary welfare policy. By doing so, you will deepen your understanding of welfare policy and people's "welfare," and to examine these policies from various perspectives in order to formulate your own views.

[Learning Objectives]
1. Understanding welfare policy from two perspectives below;
-- its historical development
-- its theoretical and ethical foundation
2. Examining controversial arguments and issues over welfare policy in modern times
By achieving these objectives, you will deepen knowledge of welfare policy and people's "welfare" and to develop one's own views.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Review the contents of the previous class and check your understanding. Read the references given in the class that you find interesting. The standard preparation and review time for this course is 2 hours each.

[Grading Criteria /Policy]
(1) Evaluation method: Reaction paper at each class (30%), final report (70%)
(2)Grading criteria

  -- the level of understanding of the content of each lecture
-- whether the students are able to develop their own views logically and persuasively.
<Final report>
 Students will be asked to write a report on a theme of their own interest.
The following are the specific grading items for final report.
-- the level of understanding of the chosen theme
-- whether the report is based on facts and correct information
-- the persuasiveness of their own views
-- the logical structure of the report
