Outline (in English)
This course aims to help students improve their English proficiency through reading articles on current topics and also focuses on transferable literacy skills that will assist you in academic writing. Attendance is mandatory, your active participation will be needed.
Comments upon the details about the textbook, attendance rule, evaluation and so on will be made at the first class of this semester. Attendance is mandatory, and students will be expected to attend every class and hopefully enjoy their own activities. Great joy is only earned by great exertion!
Attendance & active participation （20%）, examination （60%）, assignments （10%）, presentation （10%） will be totally evaluated.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
さまざまなトピックについて読み進めることを通じ、英語を英語のまま理解する感覚を身につける。加えて、それらのトピックスから、さらなる国際理解を深めていきたいと考える。
到達目標Goal
精読、多読の両面から、短時間で確実に英文を読み取る能力を養うこと。また、複雑な英文を読み解くことを通じ、さらなる自信をつけていくこと。要は、自分がどれくらい伸びたかである。その点では、なにより学生のやる気が大切となろう。

授業は、学生の理解度を主体に進めていきたいと考える。基本的にテキストに沿って進められるが、学生の理解度、興味に応じて斟酌したい。学生の興味のわきそうなトピックをさまざま扱っていく予定である。また、課題に対するフィードバックとしては、授業内における口頭コメント、もしくは文書による提出物へのコメントを予定している。
罹患者数の増、あるいは大学の方針にもとづくオンライン授業への変更の際には、各回の授業計画の変更なども含め、学習支援システムでその都度、提示いたします。

学期末まとめ、解説
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
毎回の予習は必須であり、また出席についても基本的に全出席が原則となる。学生は自らの無限の可能性を信じ、授業に臨んでもらいたい。本授業における準備・復習時間は各1時間半を標準とする。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
定期試験（60％），レポート（10％），出席・平常点（20％），発表点（10％）など、それらを総合的に評価する。懸命に努力する姿を評価したい。
出席・平常点：出席については、基本的に全出席を原則とする。きちんと出席し、真剣に取り組む姿勢を評価したい。
学期末試験：必ず受験すること。
レポート：授業中に指示する内容にそって提出すること。
オンラインでの開講となり成績評価の方法と基準も変更となった場合、
具体的な方法と基準に関しては、適宜、学習支援システムで提示したいと考える。
