Outline (in English)
The objective of this course is to deepen students' knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through English reading texts and audio and visual materials. Students will understand the basic concept of the SDGs, various targets in 17 different fields of the SDGs, and figures and facts regarding SDG-related global issues.
Another objective is to develop students' English presentation skills. Students will understand what a good presentation entails and be able to apply their knowledge to deliver English presentations. In the semester, students will learn basic presentation skills and on-stage performance including posture, gesture, and position, as well as English prosody and useful expressions and vocabulary items. At the completion of this course, students will be able to deliver a presentation in English on topics that are familiar or of personal interest, ranging from future plans, on-campus events, club or circle activities to domestic or international current news and social or global issues. Students will also be able to appropriately design and use visual aids (PowerPoint slides). For the purpose of this course, each class meeting involves various activities such as writing scripts, peer reviews, group discussions, and creating visual aids. Students are encouraged to work on such activities in English.
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. After each class meeting, students will be expected to spend two hours to understand the course content.
Grading will be based on in class contribution (40%), short reports (30%), and quizzes (30%).
