Outline (in English)

This class is aimed at understanding the essence of economics with some modern topics about the welfare issues in Japanese society and practices on how to address these issues with the economic perspectives.
This class’s objectives are for students
1. To approach the welfare issues in the modern society with economic perspectives,
2. To understand the concepts of market mechanism, market’s failure, and regulations,
3. To suggest necessary welfare policies based on your own interest.
The grading criteria is
a. Home assignments (30%, 12 x 2.5% per class)
b. Mid examination (20%, 9th class)
c. Final examination (50%, 14th class)
Home assignments will be given every class such as multiple choice, calculation, short descriptive questions. A standard preparation for each class is 2 hours.
