Outline (in English)

This course reviews the outline of the history of social education in Japan with some learning movements by people and some social education policies and movements. It also introduces some historical movements of adult education in the other countries including the international movement of adult education up to date. Students are expected to discuss about these movements and policies thorough “buzz sessions” (small-group discussions) and to present the result of group discussion to the whole class at each class meeting.
At the end of the course, students are expected to understand the complexed relation between the learning movements of people and the social education policy by political power in the development of social education and adult education.
Students must read the lecture note for each class and write down some comments on the topic at its test of the University learning-support system, Hoppii before each class. Students also must write down their comments on the discussion in the class at its test of Hoppii after it. The standard preparation and review time for each class is 2 hours each.
Grading is according to the total evaluation of Final report with the discussion of final class (70%) and class contribution (30%). Students are required to present their Final report at their group discussion of the final class meeting.
