Outline (in English)

This lecture course introduces and explains the skills and training approaches required of DX personnel through the latest technology in photo interpretation in order to develop the working adults required in the post-digital information age. Specifically, what kind of information can be read from aerial photographs and satellite images will be practiced, from visual interpretation to the application of simple image processing.

【Goal】 The high-resolution optical satellite imagery used in this course, like aerial photographs, can be easily extracted by visual interpretation, enabling terrain interpretation over a wider area. In addition, the importance of terrain interpretation is emphasized through the use of multiple images, not just a single image, so that students can acquire basic knowledge of terrain change and interpretation techniques. This course aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the principles of remote sensing technology using various digital data such as aerial photographs and satellite images, and to acquire data analysis methods, interpretation skills, and application skills that can be easily computed based on geographic information system (GIS) studies.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
With the fundamentals of geographic information-related software such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro and Q-GIS, It is necessary to research relevant information on photographic decipherment with interest in recent technological trends from Japan's GSI, JAXA, and other organizations. Standard preparation and review time for this class is approximately 2 hours each.

【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Classes will be evaluated by speeches (60%), reports (20%), and attendance/ordinary points (20%) resulting from the practical training.
