Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
This course explores decolonisation and its impact. Students read relevant literature on the theme written in Japanese (spring term) and in English (autumn term), examining varied aspects of decolonisation and its significance in contemporary history. Meanwhile, students are required to give presentations about their graduation research and/or independent research projects.
<Learning objectives>
1) Students are able to understand key issues of contemporary western history through analysing them from various perspectives.
2) Students are able to acquire basic skills of historical research.
3) Students are able to present their research outcome in precise and articulate manners.
<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Students have to spend at least two hours on preparation for and review of each class respectively. In preparation, students are required to take on every assignment - reading assigned part of textbook, preparing oral presentation, writing academic essay - seriously. After the class, they have to review what they have learned in the class and, when necessary, prepare feedbacks to questions/comments they were not able to give proper answer in the class.
<Grading policy>
Class participation, assignments, oral presentation: 50% Final essay: 50%
