Outline (in English)

Outline and objectives: Literary criticism is primarily an act of interpreting literary works (literary texts). Interpretation is an act of fixing a specific context for reading a text and defining the meaning of the text. After learning the elements for making a literary interpretation, students concretely analyze a text (a movie based on a British novel) in relation to some cultural and social context. In that process, students learn the basic concepts and keywords necessary to analyze a film. Then students learn practical methods for adaptation studies to interpret a movie through comparing it with the original work. Finally, students discuss one another's interpretations of the film treated in class.

Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend a total of four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria/Policies: Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: short reports and in-class contribution (50%), term-end paper (50%).
