Outline (in English)

Course Outline: The myths and folklore of the Nansei Islands are closely related to those of Southern Kyushu. The Hayato were the people who sailed across the Southern Kyushu and Southern Satsuma islands. In this course, we will learn about the myth of the Hayato and the people of the sea who sailed across the Nansei areas. The relationship between the Hayato from the Southern Kyushu and Japanese myths reveals the presence of Hayato people in Japanese myths. The culture of ancient Kyushu will be looked at in detail.
Learning Objectives: The goal is to recognize the importance of the Hayato in Japanese mythology.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Read the textbook and references carefully.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Attend at least 6 times and take the exam. The exam makes up 70% of the grade, and performance in class makes up 30%.
