Outline (in English)

Course Outline: The Omoro sōshi is the first written compilation of sacred songs and poems collected by the Ryukyu kingdom. The Ryukyuan folklore in the Irō setsuden and the Okinawan cultural background may have affected the development of its oral traditions. In this course, you will learn how Ryukuan sacred songs and literature are related to the cultures of the surrounding areas and developed their own unique styles.
Learning Objectives: The goal is to understand the difference between Ryukyuan and Japanese literature.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Read the textbook and references carefully.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Attend at least 6 times and take the exam. The exam makes up 70% of the grade, and performance in class makes up 30%.
