Outline (in English)

Course Outline: This class is designed to deepen knowledge and understanding about the Japanese language of the Nara period to the Kamakura and Muromachi periods.
Learning Objectives: The goals of this course are to deepen understanding about the history of Japanese and develop a viewpoint to think about about the present and future of Japanese.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend two hours to understand the course content.
Grading Criteria/Policy: The final grade will be calculated according to the following process: short report (40%), term-end examination (40%), and in-class contribution (20%).
