Outline and objectives

In this course, students will focus on the elements of making effective business presentations, including nonverbal communication, visual media, and the structure and organization of information. Learners will also improve their listening comprehension and communication skills by participating in small group activities and paired practice and by watching and discussing interviews and speeches. Each student will make two presentations during the semester and will provide feedback on classmates' presentations.

Students will focus on the elements of making effective business presentations, including nonverbal communication, visual media, and the structure and organization of information and will do research for their own presentations. Learners will practice presentation techniques and improve their listening comprehension and communication skills through small group activities and paired practice. In addition, students will watch and discuss interviews with business professionals to learn about their careers and watch short speeches to analyze presentation styles and techniques. This semester, students will focus on their own career aspirations, interview a mentor outside of class, and share what they learn with classmates. Each student will make two presentations during the semester and will provide feedback on classmates’ presentations. Students’ progress will also be assessed through a portfolio of work completed during the term and a test at the end of the course.

Grading criteria

To pass this course and receive credit, students must:
1) complete all assignments when they are due
2) participate actively in class and work cooperatively with other students
3) use English during speaking activities in class and when speaking to the teacher.

Students' progress will be assessed through a portfolio of work completed during the course, presentations, class participation, and a test.

Projects 20% / Presentations 40% / Participation 20% / Portfolio 10% / Test 10%

Grades of A+, A, B, or C will be awarded based on the quality of coursework and on effort demonstrated by classroom participation.
