Outline and objectives

The central objective of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays. Students should complete at least two written assignments and should assess the writing of other students. Students will learn about the importance of brainstorming.

Lectures will be kept at a minimum, except in the case of grammar instruction or when related to the textbook. Most time in class will be spent with students learning by pair and group practice, such as when they will assess the writing of other students. Students will also practice brainstorming. Feedback can be given in class and on assignments.

Week 1[対面/face to face]:Course Introduction and Self-Introductions

Students will write their self-introduction and do a peer assessment. Students will also introduce themselves in groups

Week 2[対面/face to face]:Who am I? - Self-Introduction in detail

Students will learn about organizing, adding more information, and about connecting sentences.

Week 3[対面/face to face]:An Important Place - Students will describe a place that they know

Students will learn about conclusions and in using prepositions.

Week 4[対面/face to face]:An Ideal Partner

Students will learn about listing points, adding reasons, and in combining sentences.

Week 5[対面/face to face]:My Favorite Photo - Students will describe a picture they have in detail

Students will learn about background information, conclusions, and in using different tenses.

Week 6[対面/face to face]:My Seal

Students will learn about organizing information, topic sentences, and in using 'because'.

Week 7[対面/face to face]:Party Time - Students will write about a class party or one for their club or circle

Students will write about plans and instructions and in using 'so that'.

Week 8[対面/face to face]:Thank-You Note (showing appreciation) - First Writing Test

Students will learn about giving reasons and time markers, and there will be a writing test.

Week 9[対面/face to face]:Movie Review - Students will start to write at least two paragraphs or more

Students will make a summary, express their opinion and learn about pronouns.

Week 10[対面/face to face]:Friendship - Students will describe a friend in detail

Students will learn about supporting sentences and in combining sentences with 'so'.

Week 11[対面/face to face]:Superhero Powers

Students will learn about adding examples and will write about wishes.

Week 12[対面/face to face]:Advertisements

Students will learn about attention getters, testimonials and in using persuasive language.

Week 13[対面/face to face]:Lessons Learned - Students will write about a regret

Students will write about an explanation, will learn about conclusions and will learn about word choice.

Week 14[対面/face to face]:Second Writing Test

To pass this course and receive credit, students have to:
a.)Complete all outside-class homework assignments and in-class writing activities,75%
b.)Use English when speaking to the teacher and during English speaking activities in class,10%
c.)Participation and attitude are central to the classroom environment,15%
