Outline and objectives

The central objective of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays. Students should complete at least two writing assignments and should assess the writing of other students.

Lectures will be kept to a minimum. The focus of most classes is on pair and group practice. Students will write and assess the writing of other students. Grammar practice is needed and should be for common errors that students make. Feedback can be given in class.

Introduction to class structure and textbook.
Students will write their self-introductions

Week 2[対面/face to face]:Writing about Yourself

Students will learn about capital letters and will write about themselves and a classmate.

Week 3[対面/face to face]:Writing about Family and Friends

Students will learn about types of pronouns, possessive adjectives and will write about their family.

Week 4[対面/face to face]:Writing about Family and Friends, Continued

Students will write about a friend, will do a peer check and will learn about e-mail writing.

Week 5[対面/face to face]:Writing about Activities

Students will learn about the present tense, and will write about free time activities, and will do peer assessment.

Week 6[対面/face to face]:Writing about Activities, Continued

Students will write about healthy activities, will do a peer check, and will learn e-mail writing.

Week 7[対面/face to face]:Giving Instructions - First writing assignment is due

Students will learn about count and non-count nouns, signal words, and will write about how to do or make something.

Week 8[対面/face to face]:Writing about Your Day

Students will learn about prepositions of time, adverbs of frequency, and will write about a typical day.

Week 9[対面/face to face]:Writing about Your Day, Continued

Students will write about special days or holidays, will do a peer check, and will write a greeting card.

Week 10[対面/face to face]:Writing Descriptions

Students will learn about the present progressive and making questions, and will write descriptions of themselves.

Week 11[対面/face to face]:Writing Descriptions, Continued

Students will describe other people, as well as Japanese products. Students will do peer assessment.

Week 12[対面/face to face]:Writing about Places

Students will learn about prepositions of place and will describe their rooms and a picture.

Week 13[対面/face to face]:Writing a Narrative

Students will learn about irregular verbs and will write about a personal experience and their autobiography.

Week 14[対面/face to face]:Expressing Your Opinion - Second writing assignment due

Students will write an opinion piece and will do a peer writing check.

Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)

Students should review before each class and should complete class exercises in the case of absences.本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。

To pass this course and receive credit, students have to:
