Outline and objectives

The central objective of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays. Students are expected to complete at least two writing assignments, and should assess the writing of other students. Students will learn about the importance of brainstorming.

Lectures will be kept to a minimum except in cases of grammar explanations. In general the focus of most classes will be for pair and group practice. Students will write at times and should check and assess the writing of other students. Feedback can be given in class and on the written assignments.

Students will write a self-introduction and will do peer assessment. Students will learn in groups.

Week 2[対面/face to face]:Who am I? - Students will write a more detailed self-introduction

Students will learn about organizing, in adding more information, and in connecting sentences.

Week 3[対面/face to face]:An Important Place

Students will learn about writing conclusions, and in using prepositions.

Week 4[対面/face to face]:An Ideal Partner

Students will learn about listing points, adding reasons and in combining sentences.

Week 5[対面/face to face]:My Favorite Photo

Students will learn about background information, writing a concluding sentence, and in using tenses.

Week 6[対面/face to face]:My Seal

Students will learn about organizing information, topic sentences and in using 'because'.

Week 7[対面/face to face]:Party Time

Students will learn about writing plans and instructions and in using 'so that' and 'to'.

Week 8[対面/face to face]:First Writing Test and Thank-you Note

Students will write in class for the first test and will learn about giving reasons, time markers.

Week 9[対面/face to face]:Movie Review

Students will write a summary and give their opinion and will learn about using pronouns.

Students will learn about supporting sentences and in using 'so'.

Week 11[対面/face to face]:Superhero Powers

Students will learn about adding examples
and will write about their wishes.

Week 12[対面/face to face]:Advertisements

Students will learn about attention getters
and testimonials, and in using persuasive language.

Week 13[対面/face to face]:Lessons Learned - Writing about Regret

Students will write an explanation, learn about conclusions, and in word choice

Week 14[対面/face to face]:Second Writing Test

Warm up, Evaluate first draft,Make selected changes,Write final draft.Closing feedback from students.

Writing from Within 1, Cambridge University Press. Other supplementary material: specific grammar writing exercises will be prepared by the instructor as needed.

References

An English paper dictionary or electronic dictionary are strongly recommended for classroom use.

To pass this course and receive credit, students have to:
