Outline (in English)

[授業概要(Course outline)]
Students of this course will read brief English biographies of able or proficient Japanese of fame. By reading 15 chapters featuring 15 famous Japanese in total, that may involve learning, or making sure of, basic English grammar and verbal usage, students as readers would consider what and how those Japanese capable persons’ styles of living or ways of thinking were, and be given some suggestions on their (students/readers’) own future lives.

[到達目標(Learning Objectives)]
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1. To read English paragraphs in context, steadily based on grammar and sufficient knowledge in vocabulary;
2. To learn what challenges successful, capable Japanese had and how they coped with and got over them;
3. Hopefully, (for students) to have prospects on their own, irreplaceable lives.

[授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)]
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content and/or handle assignments.

[成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policies)]
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Term-end examination: 50%、assignments: 30%、in class contribution: 20% (At least 60% of all is required for grading.)
