Outline (in English)
(Course Outline)
The aim of this course is to help students acquire basic knowledge about an English paragraph and basic skills to write a good paragraph.
(Learning Objectives)
At the end of the course, students are expected to understand the structure and characteristics of a good paragraph. In addition, students should be able to develop their own ideas logically and write simple paragraphs.
(Learning Activities Outside of Classroom)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend at least one hour to complete the required assignments and understand the course content.
(Grading Criteria/ Policy)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: term-end examination(30%), paragraph writing(50%), and in-class contribution(20%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
パラグラフの構造を学び、様々なトピックについて論理的に自分の意見が表現できるようにすることを目標とします。あわせて、クラス内で発表をする練習も行います。
到達目標Goal
・基本的なパラグラフの構造を理解する。
・論理的に自分の考えを展開して、簡単なパラグラフが書ける。
・基本的な文法事項、それぞれのトピックに関しての必須の表現方法を習得する。

対面授業ですが、課題の提出やフィードバックなどではGoogle Classroomを併用します。授業ではテキストと配布資料を使用して、基本的なパラグラフの構造とパラグラフが備えるべき要件について学習します。モデルパラグラフの読解、分析を行って、論理的な展開の仕方を学習します。パラグラフの種類に応じた必須の表現、関連する文法事項の演習を行って後、実際にパラグラフを書いて提出します。小テスト、課題は、採点、添削をして返却します。学期中、1回、クラス内でpresentationを行います。

授業内テストと秋学期のまとめ
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
授業に対する予習・復習時間は、1回につき1時間以上が標準となります。毎回授業の後にしっかりと復習して、次回にのぞみましょう。授業内で学んだ語彙、フレーズ等は、繰り返し復習して自分で使えるようにしましょう。paragraph writingの課題は、実際に書き始める前に、時間をかけて骨組みを考えましょう。

指定しませんが、辞書は、用例の説明や例文が多く載っている電子辞書を基本として使用してください。
成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
・評価の配分は、学期末テスト30％、英作文の課題50％、平常点20％とします。
・学期末テストでは、paragraphに関する知識と文法事項の習熟度をはかる問題を出題します。
・英作文の課題は、英語そのものの間違いよりも、条件にあったparagraphになっているかどうかを重視します。
