Outline and objectives

The central objective of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, then writing brief but complete essays.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce and practice a variety of common writing styles beginning with paragraph forms. After enough competence has been developed, students should then write brief but complete essays.
Students need to complete at least two writing assignments. Students will do peer assessment in order to help other students and to help their own understanding of the writing process.

Lectures will be kept to a minimum except for needed explanation of grammar. The main focus of the course will be pair and group practice. Students will write and will do peer assessment in the class. Students will learn brainstorming and peer assessment. Feedback can be given in class as well on the writing assignments of students. Students can give feedback too in pairs, about their weekly writing assignments.

Explain about the class. Students will write their self-introduction. Students will check the writing of other students.

Week 2[対面/face to face]:Self-introduction - Who am I? -

Students will learn about organization and adding more information and connecting information.

Week 3[対面/face to face]:An Important Place - Students will learn descriptive writing

Students will learn about write concluding sentences and in using prepositions.

Week 4[対面/face to face]:An Ideal Partner -

Students will learn about listing points, adding reasons and combining sentences.

Week 5[対面/face to face]:My Seal

Students will learn about background information, writing concluding sentences, and using different tenses.

Week 6[対面/face to face]:Party Time

Students will learn about organizing information, topic sentences, and in comma usage.

Week 7[対面/face to face]:Thank-you Note

Students will write about plans and instructions, and will edit each other's writing.

writing Thank you Notes

Students will do their writing test and will learn about giving reasons and time markers.

Students will learn about making summaries and expressing their opinion.

Students will learn about supporting sentences and in using so.

Students will learn about adding examples and will write about wishes.

Students will learn about attention getters, testimonials and using persuasive language.

Week 13[対面/face to face]:Lessons Learned - Students will write about regret

Students will write explanations and will learn about conclusions and word choice.

Week 14[対面/face to face]:Writing test

Evaluate first draft, Make selected changes, Write final draft. Closing feedback from students.

Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)

Writing from Within 1, Cambridge University Press.Other supplementary material: specific grammar writing exercises will be prepared by the instructor.

References

An English paper dictionary or electronic dictionary are strongly recommended for classroom use.

Grading criteria

To pass this course and receive credit, students have to:
a.)Complete all outside-class homework assignments and in-class writing activities, 80%
b.)Use English when speaking to the teacher and during English speaking activities in class, 10%
c.)Participation and attitude are central to the classroom environment, 10%
