Outline and objectives

Discussing, listening & note-taking, presenting: Students in this course will develop their listening, note taking, discussion, and critical thinking skills by hearing a variety of listening passages. They will also practice identifying main ideas and supporting details and stating their own opinions on the content of the passages in small groups. The students will also research an assigned topic from each unit and share the results of that research in small groups.

Goal

In this course, students will learn key vocabulary related to each topic covered , develop listening, note taking, and critical thinking skills by hearing a wide range of listening passages. Additionally, students will develop their discussion skills in expressing opinions, agreeing/disagreeing, and confirming/clarifying. Students will also work on presenting to their classmates on assigned topics that they have researched.

The students will develop their listening, note taking, and critical thinking skills by hearing a variety of listening passages. Then students will then develop their ability to discuss in pairs or small groups the issues introduced in the listening passages. . At the conclusion of each unit, there will be a review test, and an assigned research assignments to present in small groups in class.

Feedback on speeches, homework assignments, and quizzes will be given at the beginning of the next class.
