Outline and objectives

We will develop and improve your presentation skills. You will practise speaking English in pairs and small groups and make individual and small group presentations on general English topics.

Goal

At the end of the course, students should have improved their oral communication skills and confidence when speaking English in pairs, small groups and in front of an audience. Students should understand the importance of good posture, eye contact, gestures, stage position, voice projection and enunciation in basic presentations.

Students will work in pairs and small groups in the class using English in an enjoyable and communicative way. Students will give peer-to-peer feedback on presentations and will be provided with feedback from the lecturer on an ongoing in-class basis. Students will be asked to submit PowerPoint presentations on Google Classroom.

Overview of syllabus and explanation about class contents.

第2回[対面/face to face]:Unit 1: The Guy with Green Hair.

Students learn about workplace discrimination and practice giving opinions and study basic presentation introductions.

第3回[対面/face to face]:Unit 1 Presentations + Unit 2: The Shoplifter.

Students give 2-3-minute presentations in small groups. Students learn about honesty, friendship & peer pressure. Presentation overviews.

2-3-minute presentations. Students learn about technology, modern life & addiction. Presentation main bodies/details.

2-3-minute presentations. Students learn about gender issues & careers. Presentation conclusions.

Students learn about modern life, technology and age differences. Students prepare 2-3-minute presentations.

Students learn about fandom and obsessions and prepare 2-3-minute presentations.

Students prepare individual 5-minute presentations on topics of their choice.

Students practice giving their individual presentations in small groups focussing on eye contact, posture, projection and enunciation.

Students complete review activities.

Students should prepare for class as instructed, do topic background research and plan and practice short presentations for in-class activities (2-4 hours).

Grading criteria

Homework (30%) In-class participation including participation in classroom activities, individual and small group presentations (50%). Participation in speaking review activities (20%). Homework assignments, regular attendance and active participation in class activities are required in order to pass the course.
