Outline (in English)

1. Course Outline

The objective of this course is to lecture fundamental terms and concepts of jurisprudence for freshman of the Department of Law.


2. Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-A. Be able to systematically understand the overall picture of the legal system.
・ Understand the significance and characteristics of laws in each field.
-B. Acquire basic knowledge, concepts, and technical terms common to various laws.
-C. You can read legal documents accurately while referring to the "Roppo (a digest of Japanese laws)".
-D. Learn how to read court judgments, research court materials yourself, and understand the content of the judgment.
-E. You can read legal cases and articles published in newspapers with interest.
-F. When you receive a legal consultation, you can give advice on what kind of law you are involved in and what kind of texts and documents you should read.


3. Learning Activities Outside of Classroom

Lecture/Exercise(two-credits)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.


4.Grading Criteria /Policies

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
-a. Mid-term examination: 30%
-b. Term-end examination: 50%
-C. Online quiz : 20%
