Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This class is for upper intermediate to advanced level students. The purpose of this class is to enhance the skill of Japanese reading comprehension necessary for studying at the university. Students will be able to improve reading skills for the EJU exam as well as speed reading skills through various reading materials.

【Learning Objectives】
In this course, students will be able to do the following:
(1) Learn reading comprehension strategies (how to read) and be able to read a lot of coherent texts quickly.
(2) Become familiar with the style of EJU reading comprehension questions.
(3) Through reading comprehension training, you will be able to improve your knowledge and skills needed to study at a Japanese university.
(4) Improve your vocabulary by being exposed to various genres of texts.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
・Before class, please go through the vocabulary list.
・After each chapter, students need to review what you have read, kanji, vocabulary, and grammar for the quiz in each chapter.
※ Your required study time is at least two hours for each class meeting.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Grading will be decided on the basis of the following:
・In-class Contribution: 20%
・Assignments: 20%
・Quiz: 20%
・Mid-term Exam: 20%
・Final Exam: 20%

※No credit will be given to students who are absent more than three
times, also not be able to take the final exam.
※Students who want to take the course must attend the first and second class sessions. Those who fail to do so cannot take the course.
